MEE556 Final Examination Announcement

The final examination for MEE556 Aeroelasticity will take place between 0900-1200 on Tuesday 13 October 2009. The examination room will be announced closer to the examination date.

MEE556 Aeroelasticity Coursework

Students can download the following MATLAB m-file for use in the coursework.

Flapping angle MATLAB m-file

Each group must study the flapping stability of a wind turbine blade by analysing the parameter such as the wind speed and the blade natural frequency. A bifurcation diagram should be produced by the end of the project and critical events must be pointed out. The types of steady states we expect to see are stable fixed point, limit cycle oscillations, and divergence.

The coursework is to be submitted by 5PM of Friday 16 October 2009.

We finished the lecture on divergence of a lifting surface today. The class example was a uniform wing under torsional load.

These two lectures are bunched together because we basicaly only went through textbook exercises on Force Systems, FBD and Equilibrium.

We completed the chapter on control reversal. The class example was a 2D 2-DOF aerofoil (pitch and aileron) model. Derivation of reversal dynamic pressure and speed was shown. Finally, we discussed aileron effectiveness and the relationships between reversal dynamic pressure and divergence dynamic pressure.

This one too. First lecture on aeroelasticity on Tuesday 02/06/09. We covered the following topics

  • Introduction of aeroelasticity – what is this subject all about
  • Description of static aeroelasticity and its applications, ie. divergence and control reversal
  • Basic technical terms in the field of aeronautics
